Saturday morning of the 13th was the opening event for the latest business to appear in Petts Wood- Belles Florist. The front of the shop on Bluston Parade was festooned with purple and white balloons, enticing people to take a closer look.

If you didn't get the chance to see the opening event then you can take a sneak preview of what is on offer. We also grabbed a quick word with the owner, Terry Wu, and the florist herself, Claire Peavot.

Terry is no stranger to business in Petts Wood (he ran a local fish n'chip shop) but floristry appears to be a bit of a departure. We asked Terry about his motivations and what his hopes were for his new venture.

"I have known Claire personally for a number of years and I was looking for a change of direction after selling my previous business. I know what a great reputation she has locally as a florist but it wasn't until 3 months ago when I approached her that she said 'yes'."

Terry was also keen to return to the area as it is so familiar to him and he knows the people well.

The opening day had been a great success with half of their stock being sold by midday. Even the weather was quite kind!

Claire also has a history and an affinity in the area as she has run florists on this very parade of shops in the past. She has been involved with floristry for the past 15 years, 12 of which have been in Petts Wood.

Claire said that her aim was to provide people with modern, good quality flowers at competitive prices. She added that they were specialists in event floristry- they can cater for weddings, funerals and so on.

Some of Claire's previous assignments have been very glamorous indeed with her providing flowers for celebrity weddings, film premieres, TV and film.

She added: " We will always carry a good quality stock of fresh flowers and plants all year-round ."
